Josh Hawley's ideology is Josh Hawley.

placed the health of families, communities and the nation
first

That's not going to fly with the many individual freedom
sects of the Trumpist Dixiecrat GOP.

frontal assault on the free-market fundamentalism

That's not going to fly with most GOP major donors.

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/12/30/dont-dismiss-josh-hawley/

He's an insurrectionist smarter than Trump -

 https://www.huffpost.com/entry/josh-hawley-fundraising-capitol-riot_n_6079e00ce4b058846f242f90

That makes him more dangerous, if he can trick the donors
into helping him trick the voters.

He does presumably understand that as a GOP candidate
his job is to protect minority rule. As a Trumpist
candidate his job is to protect Trump.

As a third-party candidate - his job is to insure Trumpist
victory by siphoning Democratic voters.

GOP has correctly identified the most persecuted group in
America - old rich white straight male rural evangelical
Christians! For evidence - at least as far as old
rich white straight males - look no further than the list
of American billionaires, a persecuted group if ever there
was one.

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/12/09/supreme-court-crusade/

Many of America's Founders were old rich white straight
male rural Christians, so they surely must have written
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of
religion by accident.

Nowadays America's job creator billionaire class recognize
a useful single-issue constituency when they see one.

Is Pence a lost cause?

Too Trumpy for anti-Trumpists, not Trumpy enough for
Trumpists, Pence is cultivating donors anyway - in New
Hampshire! Only one reason for a national politician
to go to New Hampshire or Iowa!

Not vicious enough to fend off Cruz, Hawley, DeSantis,
et al, perhaps Pence is hoping they'll knock each other
out of contention while he stands back and stands by.

The new GOP - government as reality-TV entertainment!
The more controversy and publicity the better - more time
on Fox, more grass-roots funds raised. Even better
if some of the foot soldiers get inspired to take a few
real shots at Democrats. That will be one of Trump's
greatest contributions - restoring the Dixiecrat greatness
of Preston Brooks!

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preston_Brooks

The major donors don't mind because the show takes the
focus off GOP's actual legislative intent if a majority -
protect and expand minority rule, or lack of intent if a
minority - simply oppose all Democratic initiatives.

Wherever Republicans are in charge, they are fully
committed to erecting one-party-rule systems

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/12/01/we-may-have-already-missed-our-last-best-chance-bolster-american-democracy/

That's just their Dixiecrat heritage. Next step is to
find subtle ways to keep undesirables from voting in GOP
primaries, just like the good old days of the Dixiecrat
South. Or maybe unsubtle ways, also as in the past.

Well the IMPORTANT thing is that Manchin and Sinema will
protect the vital institution of filibuster - another good
old southern tradition - making the most of their 15 months
of fame.

Why regional federalism is becoming more appealing

 https://www.political-scrapbook.net/2020-regional.html

voters want to hand over Congress to a party that largely
treats the Jan. 6 insurrectionists as heroes

Not a MAJORITY of voters -

 https://www.reduce-rural-bias.net/

Gerrymandering alone is enough to tip the balance

And once GOP regains power, it’s hard to imagine them
ever consenting to the peaceful transfer of power again

 https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/22/opinion/american-democracy.html

So is this like Germany in 1931? 1932? or 1933? All the
GOP's Franz von Papens imagine they can maintain control
after a real Trumpist takes over the Trump base -
Donald Trump is a rank amateur and the real threat is
his successor.

Sounds like Christie will run against Trump in the 2024

But like Pence, he is too soiled by close contact with
Trump to attract anti-Trumpists, too disloyal to Trump to
attract Trumpists, too much of a self-serving opportunist
to attract principled traditional conservatives. But he
could run as an independent or on a third party in the
general election to insure Trump's victory.

It's the Trumpist Dixiecrat Party now. Congratulations
to Nixon and Strom Thurmond for conceiving a strategy
for taking Southern rural aristocrat values national.
They'll purge the last traditional conservatives from the

It's remarkable - now there are more traditional
conservatives among Democratic senators and representatives
than among GOP! Most of the GOP have abandoned the

Steve Scalise in 2017 and 2021 - what a difference four
years make.

 https://msn.com/en-us/news/politics/martin-schram-a-must-see-video-for-house-gop-leaders/ar-AAQTqpM

Concerning assassins, Schram wonders

what really motivated those warped minds to commit their
godawful crimes

In most cases, they simply wanted their 15 minutes of fame
and were willing to give their lives for it. Nobody would
have remembered any of them otherwise. See it dramatized -

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassins_(musical)

Or check out youtube assassins Sondheim.

And what kind of person measures everything by celebrity
and media ratings? For starters, a Trumpist kind of
person - one who considers a House seat to be a ticket to
appear on Fox rather than an opportunity to do something
selfless for the country. Trump was a failure as a
businessman until he settled into reality TV - which is
all about celebrity and nothing to do with reality.

GOP has no more clue than Democrats about what to do about
the kind of inflation we have now - reducing Federal social
spending won't help. If we didn't have inflation, we
might well be enjoying a recession like 2009 - for years.

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2021/11/15/inflation-recovery-stimulus/

If reducing Federal spending would help, then so would
reducing GOP's 2017 billionaire tax relief. But tax
cuts for the rich - their major donors - has always been
a pillar of what GOP does for its donors. Democrats
have collectively been somewhat better but not perfect -
they need major donors too.

That won't stop GOP from campaigning against Democrats
for inflation and tax cuts for the rich.

But so what? Biden carried out Trump's unrealized plans
for Afghanistan and infrastructure, better than Trump ever
could, and GOP blames Biden for that too.

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/11/21/dismissing-inflation-while-cutting-taxes-wealthy-is-not-winning-strategy-democrats/

It's not about facts or logic, only tribal partisanship -
any lie, cheat or steal to protect minority rule.

Traditional conservatives still in GOP need to accept
reality - the modern Trumpist Dixiecrat GOP is a cult of
personality controlled by Trump with no use for traditional
conservatives, and with no path back to sanity any time
soon. Traditional conservatives will be completely
purged from GOP long before that happens.

The violent lunatic fringe has the Complete and Total
Endorsement of Trump -

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/greene-boebert-gosar-gaetz/2021/11/20/c77dc78a-47dd-11ec-973c-be864f938c72_story.html

He is far more concerned in exacting revenge for disloyalty
than winning control of Congress in 2022, though he

both interviews only cemented the case that, even if Trump
doesn’t run, his hold on the Republican Party will remain
as tight as ever

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/11/21/republican-voters-dont-like-heresy-church-trump/

If both Christie and Cruz agree on that, who can question
it?

moving politics away from bread-and-butter economic
concerns is the best way for Republicans to hold their
supporters together

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/11/21/gop-bets-resentment-over-problem-solving/

Actual policy is very divisive for GOP voters. So
don't talk about that in public; save that for private
discussions with major donors. Stick to talking about
culture wars in public where the Federal government has
relatively little influence.

Where are traditional conservatives going to go?
They won't have a future in the Trumpist Dixiecrat
GOP. Running as Libertarians, a new third party,
or as independents is usually just a gift to Trump, by
siphoning support from the only plausible anti-Trumpists -
the Democrats.

Idealistic youngsters go to Congress to do something good -
and then they get distracted and pulled into the mechanics
of staying in Congress - and eventually all they think
about is what used to be called dialing for dollars.
Dial phones are obsolete but not the calls.

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/11/08/mitch-mcconnell-trump-impeachment-insurrection-senate/

The devil subtly whispers in their ears that in order
to do all the good things they intend, they first have
to stay in office, and this is how you stay in office -
by cultivating major donors for yourself and your allies.
Thus McConnell morphed from liberal to reactionary.

That's bad enough, but then Trump out-deviled the devil
- nothing subtle about Trump - and nothing less than
ever-increasing unsubtle public enthusiasm and loyalty
suffices - and in the end it gets you nothing. McConnell
enabled Trump - two self-serving opportunists each looking
out for #1 - but now Trump is out to destroy McConnell
no matter what it costs the GOP. McConnell is not
self-destructive and not defenseless - he probably has
a larger steadier donor stream than Trump, because of
his long-time efforts to install a reactionary judiciary
that will favor his donors' interests. Trump probably
thinks he had something to do with that, but he was just
the messenger boy between Leonard Leo and McConnell.

Clash of the titans! Who's in charge of the modern
Trumpist Dixiecrat GOP - Donald Trump or McConnell's
donors? All the countless would-be Trump successors
will probably be publicly pretending to support Trump
while privately hoping McConnell survives and thrives.

Trump already spoke -

Pure Trumpists plan to purge the GOP representatives who
voted for the infrastructure bill, even though it was
drafted by a bipartisan Senate committee.

What this means - there is no traditional conservative
party, and traditional conservatives are not welcome in
the modern Trumpist Dixiecrat GOP cult of personality.
You're either 100% behind Trump or you are against him. He

It's not mostly crazies or cowards.

 https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/28/opinion/republicans-vaccines.html

It's ambitious politicians who CHOOSE to protect their
funding and careers by defending minority rule more
unflinchingly than ever before, and agreeing to say and
do whatever is necessary to that end.

It's not craziness or cowardice, but moral turpitude,
far worse than either.

Traditional conservatives need to realize that the Trumpist
Dixiecrat Republican Party has left them behind and they
have no place to go.

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/10/07/advice-gop-trump-critics-democracy-lovers-leave-party/

Now it's evident that there never were that many
traditional conservatives after all - lots of the voters
for their candidates were really looking for a personality
cult leader who would validate ignorance, prejudice,
corruption, and authoritarianism. And now they have
their cult leader and no further need of traditional
conservatives.

And the cult leader and his base serve the purpose of
sustaining minority rule better than the traditional
conservatives ever did, so the big donors don't seem to
mind any more. So much the better when he's replaced
by one of his many abler and bolder would-be successors.

Of course the modern Trumpist Dixiecrat Republican Party
is a personality cult. That's what the major donors
decided they really wanted as the best defense strategy
for minority rule. There is no conservative ideology,
just maintaining power by whatever means works.

What are the dozen or so Republicans in Congress going
to do if they refuse to kneel before the altar of Trump's
lies?

Trump owns the biggest part of the GOP base. He is
trying to own the biggest part of GOP fundraising.
Few major GOP donors seem inclined to stop him.

Those dozen or so traditional Republicans in Congress,
who believe in conservative ideology, in facts and logic,
and don't believe in cult of personality, are going to
have to jeopardize their careers for what they do believe.

To remain relevant in Congress, they should collectively
announce themselves as Independents caucusing with the
Democrats until such time as the GOP returns to its
conservative Enlightenment ideals of facts and logic,
preaching good news to the oppressed rather than the
oppressors, and renouncing racism and violent overthrow
of the Constitution. Or until a viable new conservative
party materializes

 https://www.political-scrapbook.net/theory.html#conservative

based on something other than protecting the political and
economic power of minority rule by any means fair or foul.

 https://www.political-scrapbook.net/2020-minority.html

The Democrats should welcome these dozen into their caucus,
help fund their primary campaigns, and not run Democrats
against them if they survive their next primaries.
Nobody expects these Republicans to abandon traditional
conservative principles of limited government and fiscal
responsibility, and on most routine legislation they will
vote with the Trumpist Republicans. But the few times
that they don't will be the critical times for preserving
American democracy against its foes.

These traditional Republicans would then lose their
committee seats as Republicans, to be replaced by the worst
Trumpists McCarthy can find in the House, and perhaps not
much better in the Senate. So the Democrats should
offer them committee seats where they would do the most
good on the critical common issues.

Democrats should realize that Trump will be completely
consumed with defeating these and other GOP traitors to his
cause in their 2022 primaries, even if it cost the GOP a
majority in Congress. There is no other path to salvation
for traditional conservative principles but letting Trump
damage the GOP more than its major donors can tolerate,
so that they decide it's no longer worthwhile to fund cult
of personality. Losing their chance at gaining control
of Congress might be the jolt they need.

Poor Tim Scott. It seems that the price of a national
spotlight was that he had to say that America is not a
racist country -

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/04/29/tim-scott-racist-card/

 https://apnews.com/article/scott-republican-response-Biden-8f8b4a3adab6329447e778684a8bd508

And then he offered evidence that it is.

An odd stance for a politician mainly known for championing
police reform - of practices mostly practiced in a
racist way.

 https://www.vox.com/2021/5/2/22416155/tim-scott-optimistic-police-reform-senate

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/tim-scott-comments-race/2021/04/29/4b666c1a-a8ff-11eb-8c1a-56f0cb4ff3b5_story.html

It recalls a Newsweek article from the summer of 1964.
It was an interview with a man who the reporter described
as the president of a very exclusive group, Negroes for
Goldwater.

Maybe Tim Scott should have held out for describing
America as a country IN RECOVERY from the virus of racism.
The first step is to admit there's a problem - why else
reform police?

Anyway Americans know all about recovery from viruses.
It's not a smooth process but subject to waves.

 https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/02/opinion/america-racism.html

The initial infection was the introduction of SLAVERY in
1619, a fact that Dixiecrat-Republicans would like erased
from history. It was finally forced to retreat by the
civil rights amendments 13-15.

But it came surging back in a second wave after the corrupt
bargain of 1877. The Northern Republicans had pivoted
from being a radical party of liberation and democracy to
the party of defending privilege, and they were losing
interest in fighting the virus. So SEGREGATION
prevailed in the South for over 70 years.

The second wave was forced to retreat by Truman's
integration of the armed forces, by the Supreme Court
in Brown v Board, and by Congress with the Civil Rights
Acts of 1957 and 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965,
the last two being Lyndon Johnson's great contribution.

But a certain segment of the Republican voter, donor, and
ideology bases noted as early as 1951 that the Southern
Dixiecrat single-issue voters could be very useful for
defending a party of privilege,

 https://www.political-scrapbook.net/2020-minority.html

and in the 1968, Nixon's team turned precept into practice
with the Southern Strategy.

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy

As Dixiecrats, led by Strom Thurmond, became Republicans,
the former Republicans struggled to maintain control of
the party's direction, thinking that they were using the
Dixiecrats and not vice-versa. But there were stirring of
the third wave when Newt Gingrich popularized unrelenting
opposition to Democratic and democratic ideas.

The third wave broke when Obama was overwhelmingly elected
- a black president was unacceptable to all the explicit
and closet racists, Republicans and Democrats. The Tea
Party movement epitomized the third wave, going beyond
unrelenting but somewhat factual opposition to outrage
fantasy opposition, fueled by friendly reactionary media
who knew a big profit opportunity when they saw it.

Donald Trump didn't know much about any academic discipline
like economics or law or history or science, but he had a
sure salesman's instinct for manipulating an audience's
base emotions to further his goals. And so he was and
still is the crest of the third wave of the racism virus
and intends to continue in that role forever. He has
no problem with the patriots that trashed the Capitol and
American democracy, waving Confederate flags. The crest of
this wave is defined by SUPPRESSION of Democratic voters
by any means available, based on Trump's fantasies about
a stolen election.

And Tim Scott is, for the most part, a faithful Trump
supporter. As all Republicans with future political
ambitions have realized, to survive you have to a least
pretend to be a Trump supporter and echo his lies.

 https://apnews.com/article/scott-republican-response-Biden-8f8b4a3adab6329447e778684a8bd508

That's the deal he has made. He opposed impeachment
even after Trump's supporters waved Confederate flags in
the Capitol.

So racism is embedded in the Trumpist modern
Dixiecrat-Republican Party. It will remain embedded
as long as the racist elements of its coalition remain
essential components - in most places the GOP can't win
without them. So GOP leaders solemnly intone against
racism and violence in abstract generality but they are
only able to name specific persons and organizations on
the left. So the far right knows that they don't really
mean them. GOP leaders will continue to pick at the
racist wound as long as it excites their base and pays off
at the polls to defend minority rule. Only a concerted
effort by major GOP donors could change that - and it
doesn't seem to be happening. Every major GOP leader
professes 100% loyalty to Trump and his lies; by this sign
we know that racism is not hurting their fund-raising.

Delusional Reagan Republicans

My hope is that we rally around a set of principles and
ideas and policies, not a specific person.

Didn't you read the 2020 GOP platform?

What are the philosophies we can all agree on?

None, actually. Cult of personality is not about
fixed philosophies, but a fixed personality. If Trump
disappears tomorrow, Trumpism will remain and the surviving
Trumpists will fight to claim his mantle.

 https://apnews.com/article/paul-ryan-michael-pence-election-2020-government-and-politics-a26bbff0f5feceec0a57cb167ef1f985

Trump's in charge now of the GOP voters and state and local
machinery. The only remedy is to get the major GOP
donors to act against Trump by funding anti-Trumpists.
They had their chance in January, but it appears that
enough of them have come to agree that cult of personality
is a more effective means to minority rule than principles
and ideas and policies.

 https://www.political-scrapbook.net/2020-minority.html

Trump ripped off the fig leaves of ideology and threw
them away. He doesn't know much about principles and
ideas and policies, but he's a reality-TV star and master
salesman who knows how to keep the GOP voter base stirred
up, and he is working to bypass the GOP donors that don't
fall in line.

media and candidates combined with cult of personality is
the best way to distract the masses and get them to vote
against their own interests.

 https://www.political-scrapbook.net/theory.html#political%20ideology%20for%20the%20masses

Trump led the way, but who's stepping up to follow?

 https://apnews.com/article/politics-government-and-politics-f99f90d003a5a3ce3fe087b798208043

Unfortunately Trump has set up a combination of personality
cult and fantasy outrage media exposure and campaign
contributions that he controls. And he won't say what
he's going to use it for. He won't commit to running or
not in 2024 - and this is on purpose to deprive would-be
successors of oxygen.

 https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-michael-pence-elections-coronavirus-pandemic-mike-pompeo-68ec57715adf39f1229213e5d5bd3fa3

Trump's personal goal for 2022 is to defeat all the GOP
elected officials who failed to completely support him
in 2020. This probably means keeping Congress under
Democratic control, since Democrats will probably want to
help Trump fund the Dixiecrat-Republican primary campaigns
of the Roy Moores and Don Blankenships that Trump dredges
up to run against his GOP enemies. Then after the
purge is complete, Trump will announce his candidacy
for 2024.

Trump's goals do not coincide with those of the traditional
major GOP (mostly dark) donors, for whom McConnell is the
front money man. Losing Congress for two more years would
give the Democrats even more chances to pass legislation
that GOP voters like. That legislation would not be
friendly to the billionaire ruling class donors.

So those donors have a collective choice to make on
strategy. At what point do they move away from Trump
while pretending not to? They need to fund GOP primary
candidates who can win in 2022 general elections, whether
or not they fully supported Trump in 2020.

That's why Trump and McConnell can't put their differences
aside. The differences aren't minor points to squabble
over. The difference is between Trump's goal of
personal aggrandizement and the ruling class goal of
permanently maintaining political and economic power.

Trump, and his Gaetz and Greene followers, don't care about
the long game - après moi, le déluge! Can the
ruling class somehow turn that energy toward its ends of
long-term power? How comfortable would all those major
donors feel if the Anglo-Saxon America First Caucus ends
up running the Dixiecrat-Republican Party?

Credo for a modern Republican politician - one that can
be sworn to on a stack of holy books with a completely
straight face!

"I promise to faithfully defend and enhance the
political and economic power of the ruling class.

I support lowering taxes to benefit the ruling class.

I support deregulating to benefit the ruling class.

I support gerrrymandering and voter suppression to protect
the political power of the ruling class.

I oppose any regulation of dark campaign money, to protect
the political power of the ruling class.

I oppose any Federal minimum wage legislation or other
legislation about working conditions that might affect my
anonymous donors' interests.

I oppose any firearms legislation that might affect my
anonymous donors' interests.

I oppose any immigration reform that cuts off a supply of
readily-exploitable illegal immigrants.

I support confirming reactionary judges to protect the
political and economic gains of the ruling class.

I promise to consistently lie about my and the ruling
classes' motivations and goals by pretending that my
actions support working and middle class people.

I promise to zealously conceal the source of my campaign
funds and my personal financial interests in legislation.

I promise to wholeheartedly worship in Cult of Personality
to conceal the actual motivations of the ruling class.

I promise to actively support any and all fantastic myths
that divide the masses against each other and conceal the
actual motivations of the ruling class."

Those are promises that GOP politicians can and will keep!
Unfortunately they don't resonate with GOP voters, even
in a Potemkin democracy.

So those politicians have to talk about other things,
which are not true or not relevant, whether antifa in the
Capitol or Dr Seuss.

Republican voters are evenly divided between those who
think the rioters went too far and those who think the
rioters did not go far enough.

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/capitol-riot-republicans-trump-conspiracy-theories/2021/01/11/f50e2ce6-5376-11eb-a08b-f1381ef3d207_story.html

Likewise the GOP leadership is evenly divided between the
"gamers" who want to maximize power within the
existing system and the "breakers" who want to
tear it down and start over.

 https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/09/magazine/trump-coup.html

The Whigs were thus so fundamentally divided over slavery
that they dissolved.

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whig_Party_(United_States)#Collapse,_1853%E2%80%931856

Just as compromise was no longer possible over slavery,
compromise is not possible between defending the
Constitution and attacking the Constitution.

 https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/11/us/politics/republican-party-trump.html

It is not possible to devise a platform that encompasses
both, which is why GOP turned into a cult of personality
instead of ideas. What possible equivalent of this
Democratic message proposal could anybody credibly propose
for the whole GOP?

 https://www.political-scrapbook.net/2020-message.html

Either the GOP divides into two independent and somewhat
antagonistic parts, or the country does, just as it
did before.

If that comes to pass, may it be peaceful!
