That's how you get the money to buy the ads to get the votes to sustain minority rule. And a little discreet foreign support doesn't hurt, if they conclude that your actions advance their strategic objectives. Trump's base thinks they are getting ripped off by the other people, immigrants, the deep state, Democrats - even though the truth is they are getting ripped off by the Republicans who were telling them they were getting ripped off by everybody else - and then accuse the Democrats of promoting class warfare. This paradox was the basis of minority rule by the Dixiecrats in the South through the 1960's, and was then adopted by the Republicans nationally as the Southern Strategy which has been a pillar of their minority rule ever since - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy. If you've got enough money to repeat your message over and over through every channel, enough voters will start to believe it's true - "It's us white men against all those people" - not "us feudal lords against the poor." This used to be a subliminal message, discreetly conveyed to those who wanted to hear it. In the Trump era, it's boldly broadcast to everybody. When it comes to white supremacist rallies, Trump notices fine people on both sides. Not much, you might think, but they get a big mention in the CARES Act. That's because politicians of all stripes who just voted for a $2 trillion bailout, need to have a bag of goodies with something they can pull out for any audience during their re-election campaign. The part that's vaguely related to the virus is that you can withdraw retirement funds early without paying a penalty - but you still have to pay the regular tax on ordinary income. https://www.fool.com/retirement/2020/04/09/4-ways-the-coronavirus-stimulus-bill-could-affect.aspx It's usually not a good idea to withdraw your retirement early, but if you have to, it won't hurt as much as usual. The part that's harder to relate to the virus is that the requirement that you take a minimum required distribution, once you reach age 70 1/2, has been suspended for 2020. If you don't need to take the MRD then you don't have to take it and you don't have to pay a penalty. If you don't need to take your RMD, then you must not be hurting too badly from the virus. This provision is a goodie in the bag for older better-off voters who don't need any financial help, but do need a reason to return the incumbent to office. It's nominally to avoid forcing people to sell when the market is low, but it's more about passing on a more generous estate to their heirs. Most people who are hurting financially from the virus don't know about RMD's and don't care. That's just the way the politicians like it - putting in benefits for the better off that are obscure enough that the majority of voters won't get upset. https://itep.org/the-job-is-not-yet-done-itep-statement-on-the-2-trillion-relief-package/ It's exactly the way the 2017 tax cut was put together. http://www.one-flat-tax.net/ == topic tax ===== impact 32 impactrate 0 negative 0 posted 2020-04-09 ratio 13 react 1 reactrate 0 sharesrate 0 sumclicks 1 title Retirement MRD's - special rules for 2020 topic tax wordrate 0 words 315 ID 1116875958656922 URL https://www.facebook.com/politicalscrapbooknet/posts/1116875958656922 audclicks 1 audreach 1 engaged 1 impress 19 likeclickusers 1 likeuimpress 14 likeuusers 12 matchedlinkclicks 1 oimpress 19 oreach 13 posted "04/09/2020 10:30:49 PM" postlinkclicks 1 reach 13 type Link ========== Never waste a pandemic - Use the opportunity to reduce taxes on real estate developers! For instance, what better time to allow them to expense capital improvements in one year instead of depreciating them over their lifetime? It doesn't help residential homeowners, but major Republican donors have a lot more wealth in commercial real estate than in their personal residences. https://www.loopnet.com/learn/five-real-estate-takeaways-from-senate-approval-of-coronavirus-stimulus-/511170555/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/03/31/trump-dc-hotel-sale/ Since these tax law changes have nothing whatever to do with coronavirus, it's best to do them in secret late at night.
